Wingen is an Aboriginal word meaning “FIRE”. The Burning Mountain is one of the main tourist attractions of the Upper Hunter Valley, the 14-hectare Burning Mountain Reserve conserves active smoking vents from a coal seam burning underground and it is believed that the fire has been burning for more than 5000 years and is the only one in Australia.
